Scuba diving in Cayman is possibly
one the most pleasurable experiences
one can have. Whether snorkeling or
scuba diving the Cayman Islands
provides the perfect location for
the trip. Despite the Cayman Islands
government does maintain and
regulate some safety aspects of the
Cayman Islands water sports, scuba
operators are not required to join
any trade organization. Most scuba
location and dive operators actually
operate outside of the Cayman
Islands government regulations.
Cayman Islands scuba and dive
operators can chose to join and
support one of the two local trade
organizations, the Cayman Islands
Water sports Operators Association
and the Cayman National Water sports
Association. Cayman Islands dive and
scuba location is easy accessible,
boast crystal clear water, lush
coral reefs, great dive walls and a
diverse fish and sea urchin
population. The Cayman Islands has
several dedicated dive resorts each
one with staff that are professional
dive instructors and dive masters
along with state of the art dive
boats. This has made the Cayman
Islands one of the top three
Caribbean dive destinations. Diving
locations are found in Grand Cayman,
Cayman Brac and Little Cayman each
offer very different diving
experiences. This allows Cayman
island divers to choose from,
several locations in either
location. In this piece we explore
the most renowned Cayman Islands
scuba and diving locations.
GRAND CAYMAN SCUBA DIVING: The 7 Mile beach and the South Sound beach are possibly
the most popular diving location in
the Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman is
the largest island most developed of
the island as well. Grand Cayman has
the most dive resorts and five-star
hotels, providing fine dining; great
shopping is home to George Town the
capital of the Cayman Islands. The
Grand Cayman, Seven Mile Beach
extends north from George Town to
the west end, of Grand Cayman and is
a white sand beach that’s bordered
by the deep water of the Cayman
Trench. The walls of the Grand
Cayman trench have long been a Grand
Cayman diving attraction. Drops go
as far as 40 feet or deeper boasting
some of the most amazing coral and
sponge formations on the reef
structure. For more experienced
divers who would like to go as far
down as 100 feet drops a deep sea
submersible formerly used for
deep-sea research, allows divers to
venture as far as where there is no
penetration of light at
approximately 800 feet. Grand Cayman
non-divers use a shallow water
submarine designed for exploring the
Grand Cayman reef through large
portholes. Grand Cayman is ringed
with a splendid barrier reef that
has drops up to 1,000 feet deep.
Sponge formations on the reef or on
coral walls are found across the
island. However it is the
interactivity with the sea creatures
that makes Grand Cayman diving so
intriguing. Grand Cayman’s Stingray
City is world famous for Southern
Stingrays, ranging in size from four
feet in length to up to 10 feet in
width seem domesticated and interact
with the divers.
CAYMAN BRAC SCUBA DIVING: Cayman Brac is the second largest of the Cayman Islands
and is often called the Brac. This
Cayman Island is not being simply a
low-lying limestone Cayman Island,
but actually has a bluff that goes
up to 140 feet tall on the eastern
end of the island and the limestone
cliffs are a popular attraction to
both divers and travelers alike. The
caves that surround the island is
said to hold ‘Blackbeard's gold’ a
famed pirate’s treasures. The Cayman
Brac dive resorts have settled on
the south and southern western end
of the island. This provides access
to some of the best Cayman dive
sites off the island as well as
giving relatively fast and easy
access to the island of Little
Cayman. Diving in Cayman Brac
features precipitous walls excellent
coral growth and some shallow reefs.
Cayman Brac divers find coral heads
rising to almost 40-feet to almost
15 feet of the surface. On The
contours of corals around the Cayman
Brac are almost amazing. The most
popular attraction under seas is the
Russian frigate destroyer the M/V
Capt. Keith Tibbetts, sunk off
Cayman Brac's shores in 1996 by the
Cayman Government. With many holes
to swim through the Cayman Brac
divers enjoy this location very
much.
LITTLE CAYMAN SCUBA DIVING:
The Bloody Bay Wall in the Cayman
Islands is perfect for Cayman scuba
divers especially for divers that
want space and isolation. A Little
Cayman tour of the town takes a few
minutes. The dive resorts in Little
Cayman are basically the only hotel
accommodations available are all
found on the southwest coast. These
are very personal Little Cayman dive
resorts where divers can interact
with many divers. Bloody Bay Wall is
possibly one of the most famous dive
locations with dive walls starting
at 18 feet. Within 50 yards to these
dive walls are shallow, fish filled
and coral gardens with an absolutely
brilliant vertical wall and then
gradually sloping dive walls with so
much to explore the Little Cayman
dive location. Bloody Bay Wall is
reputed as the premier dive site in
the Caribbean.
